The title above is a quote from former New Jersey Governor and 9/11 Commission head, Tom Kean, concerning the stunning revelation that NORAD and Pentagon officials may have provided “knowingly false” testimony.
You know, one of those “loose ends” that if tied would actually answer perhaps the most important question of 9/11: Why didn’t NORAD intercept any of the planes involved?
The same Mr. Kean, by the way, who on Charlie Rose, after the commission delivered its report, echoed an absurd Condi Rice talking point by saying ~nobody could have imagined using airplanes as missiles.~
As is being reported today, Vanity Fair has an amazing article out that details the initial response by NORAD and provides never-before heard NORAD audio tapes and transcripts.

BOSTON CENTER: Hi. Boston Center T.M.U. [Traffic Management Unit], we have a problem here. We have a hijacked aircraft headed towards New York, and we need you guys to, we need someone to scramble some F-16s or something up there, help us out.
POWELL: Is this real-world or exercise?
BOSTON CENTER: No, this is not an exercise, not a test.

WATSON: What?
DOOLEY: Whoa!
WATSON: What was that?
ROUNTREE: Is that real-world?
DOOLEY: Real-world hijack.
WATSON: Cool!
And just ~ten minutes later, the first plane hit the World Trade Center.
Definitely read the whole thing.

In the last few weeks, I’ve added the following to the Vermont blogroll…
Cut to the Chase, the much-visited national and international news aggregator from the amazingly prolific (and most-likely sleep-deprived) Katharine Chase, with some Vermont references and links thrown in for good measure.
Five Before Chaos, by J.D. Ryan, self-described as…
Observations about culture, politics, secular humanism, Christofascist idiocy, Blaxploitation films, Spaghetti Westerns, music and other amusing things, from the Green Mountain state. Not for the ultra-PC or hypersensitive…
Orwell’s Grave, written by Stephen McArthur, Montpelier-based writer and music producer.
And Rational Resistance, by fellow GMD front-pager, Jack McCullough, also of Montpelier.

I think what is most interesting in this current poll (and we must not forget, of course, that there is no previous ARG poll to compare it to) is the importance of the “independent” vote.
Independents make up 42% of the electorate in this poll and they break this way…
Sanders’ 61% over Tarrant’s 28%.
Welch’s 44% over Rainville’s 37%
Douglas’ 47% over Parker’s 32%
As they say, the “I”s have it…
But, Tarrant only getting 71% of the Rep vote is interesting, too… When paired with 78% for Rainville and a whopping 90% for Douglas.
Also, note how Rainville is pulling 17% of the Dems to her side…
Not sure what any of it means, but interesting to speculate about nevertheless…The poll is currently on the ARG home page.
