Unflattering PhotoBlogging: Free Press Edition…
by Vermonter under MINE |For posterity’s sake, I just wanted to link to this article which appeared on the front page of the Burlington Free Press on Saturday, November 1st, 2008…
photo by Ryan Mercer, Burlington Free PressWith three days to go before the election, there are plenty of pundits now willing to predict Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will win Tuesday.
Neil Jensen, 39, of Monkton has those prognosticators beaten by a mile. He says he saw all this coming two years ago, and he’s got the words he wrote on his own blog “What’s the Point” to prove it.
“I predict he’ll run, win the nomination, and win the presidency with the widest margin since Reagan,” Jensen wrote Oct. 23, 2006.
Since that day, Jensen said, he’s devoted himself to making that prediction come true.
Oh, and this article today from Dan Barlow of the Vermont Press Bureau…
Vermont’s role in helping elect the new president of the United States can be traced back to December 2006 when a Monkton man who became a fan of the Illinois senator after hearing his speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention began organizing a grassroots movement to draft Obama for president.
Neil Jensen’s first Obama meeting in Burlington drew about 30 people. Soon those numbers grew and when Obama’s campaign finally set up shop in the state, it plugged right into the network of supporters and fans who laid the foundation.
Jensen watched Tuesday’s election results at his home with a bit of trepidation. Despite the fact that Obama’s chances looked solid coming into Election Day, it was when the networks called Ohio — and its 20 electoral votes — that he knew his pick had won the race.
“What was amazing was seeing Vermont be the first state called for Obama,” Jensen said. “Even if the night turned out different, I would have been happy that we did the right thing here.”
It should be noted that Vermonters stood up for Barack Obama in a big way, giving him a victory in every single Vermont town except four, according to today’s Free Press…
Amazing.
